The upfront cost of buying a Cockapoo puppy from a breeder will range from $500 to $3000 dollars. Which seems like a lot by itself, but isn’t the end of the story by any stretch. Cockapoo price is so much more than that initial payment. You’ll need to shell out for all of their equipment and vaccinations, then budget for the ongoing costs of food, training and health care.

Always take the cost of adding a Cockapoo puppy to your home seriously. Providing proper care for your puppy is very important. Vaccinations, proper nutrition, medical care, license, and registration, cannot be avoided. Having a realistic estimate of the costs that a Cockapoo puppy will come with is an important part of preparing to add one of these loving dogs to your family.
What is a Cockapoo?
A Cockapoo, also sometimes called a Cockadoodle, is the result of a mixing of two dog breeds. These breeds are miniature or toy sized Poodle and either an American Cocker Spaniel or English Cocker Spaniel.
The Cockapoo has been around in the United States since the 1950s and there are multiple groups working towards developing them into a recognized breed.
Cockapoos come in a wide range of colors and coat patterns, including black, chocolate, tan, white, cream, champagne, and even merle or tri-color!
Taking the good sides of their parentage, Cockapoos are known to be intelligent, easy going, friendly, and highly trainable dogs.
Calculating the Cost for a Cockapoo Puppy
Many people don’t realize that top quality breeders almost never actually make any money off the puppies. The Cockapoo price tends to just cover costs. This is because a good breeder puts the priority on the care and health of both the puppies and their parents!
Depending on the breed and if there are any complications of pregnancy or birth, a single puppy can easily rack up several hundred to thousands of dollars in costs!
Cost of a Puppy from Breeders
Cockapoo price can vary greatly from breeder to breeder. On average, you should expect to pay anywhere from $900 to $2,500 per puppy. This exact price will change depending on the breeder, and even the individual dog!
The range in price can be due to rare coat colors, the health history, genetics, and bloodlines of the parents, and the age of the puppy.
While the price tag seems high, please keep in mind that many breeders don’t turn any profit selling the puppies! A quality breeder who cares about the health and well being of their animals invests thousands of dollars into each puppy.
This Cockapoo price tag begins before the pups are even born! The costs for the parent dogs include care, quality nutrition, and medical screening for disease and genetic disorders.
Expensive Puppies vs Low Price Puppies
The Cockapoo price when buying a puppy from a breeder can be a bit of a shock if you aren’t prepared for it. It’s tempting to look for cheaper puppies from other places.
While you very well may find Cockapoo puppies significantly cheaper from smaller breeders or even pet shops, please take into consideration a few things.
Puppy farms come in all shapes and sizes, but they all treat dogs as commodities for making profit. Puppy mill puppies rarely have quality if any, medical care. This makes them significantly more prone to genetic disorders, physical disease, and mental and emotional issues.
Ask to visit the breeder’s home and meet the parents of their litter. Look at the cleanliness and care of not just the dogs, but all animals on site. Some red flags for puppy mills are if the breeder is willing to give you the puppy at a very young age, have multiple litters going at all times, or refuse to let you see the facility.
Buying Puppies vs Older Dogs
If having a Cockapoo as a puppy isn’t high on your priority list, there are a lot of breeders who will sell you older pups or adult dogs at lower rates. Sometimes this is just because the puppy didn’t find a home at the same time as their siblings. Or they might have been returned to the breeder by a family who realised they couldn’t commit to a puppy after all.
A female who as has borne a couple of litters, or a show dog who’s finished showing might also be offered for an honorable retirement. Occasionally older may also have some medical or behavioral issues, but the breeder should be transparent and honest with you about it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
The Cost of Vaccines and Booster Shots
All puppies require a few rounds of vaccinations and booster shots. Also, medication for intestinal parasites and heartworm are typically included. The full schedule of immunizations and boosters will tend to be anywhere from $150 to $300 for each animal. This is not including any additional fees or charges from your veterinarian.
Some jabs, like rabies, are legally required by your city or state. Many apartment communities or rental properties also require proof of up to date rabies vaccination for your pets. Others are technically optional, but don’t skip them just to save a few bucks!
Licensing and Microchipping Your Dog
This is a legal requirement in many cities and states, as it helps the city keep track of the animal population, along with helping ensure your dog can be returned to you if ever lost. Additionally, microchipping your pet is a popular and effective way to ensure your dog will make it home safely if anything should happen.
The microchip is a small radio chip encased in glass and is about the size of a grain of rice. It is implanted under the skin by a veterinarian, and normally costs only about $20-$60 per animal.
Equipment and Supplies
Unless you already have dogs, there are a lot of pet supplies you’ll need to gather to make your Cockapoo puppy’s new home safe and welcoming. Check out this article going over the basic supplies and equipment that dogs need in their new homes.
You’ll need to make sure your Cockapoo puppy has what it needs. This means proper bedding, toys, grooming supplies, to an appropriate collar and leash. Depending on what you select for your Cockapoo, you can expect the cost of supplies to range anywhere from $200 to $500.
If you decide to invest in some larger equipment like a quality crate, doggy gates, or premium food and treats, this price range will obviously go a bit higher.

I just bought a red miniature Cockapoo in Miamisburg, Ohio for $1,975. She is healthy and beautiful. She is definitely worth the money. She has a brother that looks just like her that is a shade lighter.

Our wonderful Cockapoo Charlie passed away in June 2020 at almost 15 yrs old. We were devastated but knew in our hearts that it was his time to go. Today I called the breeder where we bought him from as we have decided to get another one. Holy sticker shock! We paid $200.00 for Charlie. I was just quoted $2,000. + applicable tax! She said she is embarrassed to ask that much but that is what all breeders are charging now. Breeder has my name and told me think about it as she knows it’s a lot … my husband almost died when I told him lol but we will probably go for it … not looking for a bargain.

We saw the most beautiful angel in a reputable pet store here in the Houston area. Was going to buy him but they wanted $7K for this mini cockapoo pup. Sadly had to break the news to my 10 year old daughter that we couldn’t have this one, can’t afford it. Still on the lookout but hard to find. Any advice would be appreciated.

I’m looking for a pet for my granddaughters we’ve adopted ages 12&5. We’ve had cockapoo in the past and just loved them and they lived long life’s and great with our 8 children we had. We are retired and on a fixed income so cost could be a problem. Our grandkids really need a pet that’s all they talk about. They’ve had hard times and we think this would really help them not to lose faith and love in life. Thank you and I pray you will be able to help us out. We live in California . God bless you !

I am homebound in a wheelchair due to a serious accident. At the time of the accident I had two beautiful bichons. My boys are playing by the rainbow bridge and I miss them so. After ten years I had complications and had three sugeries. I am so very unhappy being alone. I believe I made it through the first time to come home to my boys. It’s a long time and I need a new buddy, the doctors and my broken heart agree. I am looking for a cockapoo. I love bichons but I am afraid of all the memories. So I am looking for a cockapoo, a shitzu/bichon mix that would love to always have attention and lots of love.

i had a black female cockapoo named Bella she died at the hands of a surgeon who performed a spleenectemy on her and he was not prepared for any complications. I watched her die gasping for breath. She was my best friend and i will never forget her. If you are looking to buy a cockapoo for the first time do not hesitate. If i ever purchase another dog it will be a cockapoo. Bella was for 12 years my life.

I got my cockapoo through a rescue facility just outside Cincinnati, OH. The facility was immaculate and well taken care of as was my dog. He had been rescued 6 weeks prior to my visit. I was amazed that nobody had taken him prior to me as he has been the best dog. I did not have to train him in anything. He was probably 2-3 years old when I rescued him back in 2009 and still to this day, runs around like a pup! He’s very good natured and loves everyone. Oddly enough, I only had to pay $150.00 for him back then but I certainly would’ve paid more as he’s been worth every cent!
