Short Haired Dog Colors
Short haired dogs don’t necessarily look at all similar, even though their coats are the same length.
There are a brilliant range of colors, patterns and markings to be found on their fur.
Short Haired Dogs Shedding
It’s easy to look at a short haired dog breed and assume that the lack of long fur means they will shed less.
But sadly that’s not the case.
In fact some of the world’s most prolific shedders (we’re looking at you, Labradors!) come from very neat and tidy looking fur levels.
Curly coats catch loose hairs and keep them wrapped up in their fur.
Short hairs drop straight out, clinging loosely to the coat looking scruffy or dropping all over your floor.
So having a good grooming routine and the right tools is essential if you live with short haired dogs.
Grooming Short Haired Dogs
Most short haired dogs can be given a brush once a week, and stay looking neat and tidy.
Although during shedding season you might want to up it to twice a week.
A simple pin and bristle brush, and a deshedding tool are all that most owners need to comb their dogs hair thoroughly.
Provided they don’t have a preference for rolling around in the dirt, most short haired dogs do fine being bathed just every so often.
Or when they happen to have got particularly mucky.
Finding A Short Haired Puppy
The best short haired dog breeds don’t just have cute clipped coats.
They have great temperaments and generally good health.
Finding a healthy dog is easier when you think about the proportions of a wolf.
They don’t need to be that tall, but things like their legs and body being proportionate, and having a long nose, make a big difference to a dog’s comfort.
Although all pedigree dogs have some genetic health issues, good breeders will run health tests to make sure your puppy’s chances of catching them are reduced or removed entirely.
So make sure you get to know exactly what certificates your chosen short haired dog’s breeder should be showing you before you go to view a puppy.
